ROV is a visionary artist whose boundless creativity knows no bounds, exploring a diverse spectrum of artistic expressions driven by an insatiable passion to articulate his ever-evolving creative vision. Professionally known as ROV, Robert Marley III is not only a visual artist but a cultural transmuter, carrying forward the indelible legacy of his iconic grandfather, Bob Marley, while imbuing his work with messages of authenticity and spiritual exploration. ROV's artistic journey transcends boundaries, encompassing traditional art, fashion, and furniture, resulting in a dynamic fusion of mediums and styles.
As a Jamaican American with African and Indian roots, ROV's art is intrinsically influenced by his global wanderings. Annual visits to Kingston, Jamaica, alongside his twin sister, immersed him in the rich cultural heritage and extravagant fashion sense of his grandmother. Witnessing her fashion designs spring to life ignited the creative spark within him. Drawing, poetry, and storytelling became his innate forms of expression, seamlessly accompanying him on his life's journey. His cultural complexity gave birth to dynamic realms within his art, where truth, passionate visions, intimate moments, and profound reflections converge.
ROV infuses his paintings with vibrant colors and striking patterns, creating an enigmatic aura that draws inspiration from the delicate balance between harmony and chaos. Rooted in the organic elements of the human experience, his art delves into both the visible and unseen facets of existence, navigating the realms of darkness and light with unparalleled finesse.
His artistic journey gained momentum during his enrollment in the Magnet Art Program at Coral Reef Senior High School, where he honed his technical skills and reveled in the freedom to experiment with diverse mediums such as etching, 3D design, fashion, modeling, and photography. His insatiable curiosity led to collaborations on a Wynwood mural and the curation of an eccentric sustainable fashion show, demonstrating his ability to express creativity in unconventional ways.
ROV Marley's exceptional talent garnered recognition with the National YoungArts Silver Key awards in both 2021 and 2022, solidifying his position as a rising star in the art world.
Upon graduating high school in 2022, ROV crystallized his personal ethos: MARVIKOLOC. MARVIKOLOC, pronounced as "mar-vi-ko-lus," embodies the curiosity to dismantle labels through wondrous imagination and multidimensional passion. It represents a perplexing and dynamic reflection of infinite universes—an exploration of virgin insanity within darkness and chaos, eternally extinguishing and creating psychedelic formlessness.
In ROV's paintings and oil pastel illustrations, he breathes life into the undeniable beauty of Afrocentric men and women through his psychedelic lens. He intentionally transmutes feelings of love and abundance, establishing a fluidity that captures moments of stillness. With spiritual awareness and intention, Marley creates potent visualizations that captivate audiences, conveying a message of expansive, free-flowing authenticity. Fearlessly blending elements of Afro-futurism, psychedelia, color theory, and abstract expressionism, his brushstrokes engage the soul in a multidimensional dance of whimsy and power.
ROV MARLEY continues to share his unique light with the world. He participated in the world renowned Art Basel in Miami of 2023, showcasing his unique painting in Salaam Remi’s newly opened gallery in Wynwood, the art and design district of Florida. The two artists collaborated to create a striking painting that combines culture, technology, paint, and engineering. The “Black Panther” portrait has created a new genre of expression in the art world.
